Description
The exhibition is an illustrated journey that transports the viewer to places that may not feature in any travel guide but rather inhabit the desire of places we’d like to visit. Jorge Arévalo has created an alternate universe that maintains the essence of his style, inspired by travel posters and brochures of the past. His vibrant colour palette is presented alongside the artist’s trademark sophisticated characters to conjure scenes in which “lost times are sought” with an analogue feel, as if created in pen and ink. 20 works are available as limited edition prints and the original sketches are also displayed.
This collection of works, published in a limited series, is accompanied by small and medium-sized tempera paintings on paper, which, thanks to their thickness and the relief created by the artist’s brushstrokes, lend a tangible quality to the images.
The exhibition stems from the gallery’s intention to celebrate the talent of this unique artist by introducing him to the general public and showcasing the purest and least visible facet of his work: drawing on paper. ‘Hôtels’ is an emotional encounter with Jorge Arévalo’s most intimate and personal creation and a unique opportunity to see his painting up close, something truly rare.
Internationally-renowned illustrator and creative director, Jorge Arévalo is the recipient of numerous awards in the most prestigious fields of illustration and design. Regularly contributing to publications such as Vanity Fair, Vogue, The New Yorker and Harper’s Bazaar, he has also created successful campaigns for Carolina Herrera, Chanel, Sisheido, Hackett and Air France.
In the exhibition, the works are framed with a 2.5 cm off-white background and a 2 cm oak molding, resulting in overall dimensions of 49 x 38 cm per piece. If you are interested in having your artwork framed this way, please contact us.
