EDUARDO BERTONE (Rosario, Argentina, 1977)

After studying graphic design and illustration, in 1998 Bertone began working in the creative branch of advertising while simultaneously developing different artistic projects. He has worked on international projects for many major brands, including Tommy Hilfiger, Honda, Schweppes, Ron Barceló, Mini, Smart, L’Oréal, Hewlett-Packard and Unilever. A turning point in his career as an artist came in 2006 when he participated in Fabrica: les yeux ouverts, which led to group shows at the Centre Pompidou in Paris, the Shanghai Art Museum, the Milan Triennale, MUMOK Vienna and the Shiodome Italia Creative Center in Tokyo.

In 2007 he participated in the exhibition Outsiders in the Netherlands, where he discovered the legendary French collective Le Dernier Cri. In 2008 the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo of Madrid acquired three works by the collective that Bertone co-founded. His work has been featured in Illustration Now! (Taschen), AI-AP NY and 200 Best Illustrators 2009 (Lürzer’s Archive), among other publications.

Bertone uses a variety of media, from digital art to mural painting. Dominated by vibrant colours or black and white, his work is a product of what he calls “automatic painting”, which consists in drawing on a white surface and gradually covering it completely as the lines become recognisable forms, with no preconceived idea.
