JUDAS ARRIETA (Igor Arrieta Varela), Hondarribia, Guipúzcoa, Spain 1971
He studied in The University of the Basque Country and has a degree in Fine Arts. He is one of the most recognized and recognizable Spanish artists of his generation, acknowledged by numerous awards and recognitions, whose work and career has been reviewed by many Art magazines.
He has shown his work through many exhibitions in Spain, and outside our country, mainly in Europe, United States and Asia; his work is part of big important private and public collections, such as The Guggenheim Museum in Bilbao, Caja Madrid or Casa Asia in Barcelona, among many others. Because of his success in Asia, he lives between Hondarribia and Beijing.
He is a prolific artist who paints, draws, sculpts, make murals, and video art and installations. He uses any media to express the powerful influence of Japanese Manga in his work and his life, together with other Asian popular cultures (such as Chinese communist aesthetics), amalgamated with a contemporary artistic language of European tradition, getting many different layers of mixed up messages. He introduces us different ways of understanding art and approaching to the work, using games and humor. He likes to generate positive experiences in the public; in fact he defines painting as a sport.
