Verbena
The San Isidro festival and the city of Madrid form a perfect, unbreakable marriage. When seen together, they make everyone understand what this city is all about. Madrid is a perfect blend of a cosmopolitan and international city and a provincial capital, almost a village, housing in perfect harmony the avant-garde trends and the popular traditions.
Everything fits in Madrid, and everyone fits in. Every one is Madrileño if he wants to. And so, in the festivities in honor of the Madrilenian San Isidro, celebrating his life and miracles, tradition, and authenticity are given free rein. It is a joyful, colorful, religious, and, of course, also pagan festival in which chulapos and manolas indulge in dancing and aguardiente. The air smells of wafers, and in the distance the barrel organ plays, while arm in arm everyone heads off to the bullfights and then to the verbena. And there, at the verbena, we met Branda and his dance partners, full of color and solemnity, as the date and tradition dictate.
In this gallery, so in love with this unique city, such a special day cannot go unnoticed, and we come to celebrate it with you saying out loud, “Viva San Isidro, Viva Madrid!”
