El arte original de Jim Flora (de 1943 a 1997)

La Fiambrera Art Gallery is honoured to present EL ARTE ORIGINAL DE JIM FLORA, a new exhibition—the second in Spain—to feature the work of American illustrator, graphic designer and artist Jim Flora.

Throughout EL ARTE ORIGINAL DE JIM FLORA, the artist playfully wields his pencils and brushes to document architecture observed during his travels in Mexico and Europe. Indulging his beloved maritime scenes, and—naturally—paying homage to Jazz and Swing through images filled with trumpets, saxophones, guitars and clarinets.

Flora is considered a leading pioneer of the bold, caricaturist style that defines the mid-20th-century commercial art aesthetic. His album covers have become pop-culture icons and his style has influenced generations of artists, illustrators and graphic designers from the latter half of the 20th century to the present day.

While the 2022 show focused on his essential and legendary work for record labels during the 1940s and 50s, EL ARTE ORIGINAL DE JIM FLORA offers a broader, more comprehensive sense of the artist. The exhibit comprises 24 original drawings and paintings from the 1990s—a remarkably prolific period during his retirement—and 17 new and exclusive editions of works never before reproduced dating back to the 1950s and 60s. These are accompanied by a selection of limited-edition prints and screen prints produced over the last 20 years in New York by Irwin Chusid, the curator of Flora’s estate, the earliest being a work from 1943.
